New Lecture Theatre for Merton College, Oxford

This project involved the construction of a new lecture theatre in a site constrained on three sides by existing buildings. To limit the height of the building, the plant room and storage areas are in a basement. The basement was formed in a high water table using interlocking (secant) piles and has a post-tensioned concrete slab over. The superstructure is a steel frame.  Sustainable timber was used extensively for the wall panels and the roof structure.

This helped the building achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’.
