New Sports Facility for Malvern College, Worcestershire
This state of the art sports facility comprises a 6 lane, 25m swimming pool, 8 badminton court sports hall, a fitness suite, shooting range and glass-backed squash courts. The sympathetic, contemporary architecture uses glass, steel timber and masonry with a sedum roof to some of the building. A steel frame was designed to create the large, open spaces within the building and for speed cf construction. The ground was strengthened by replacing soft soil with columns of compacted stone – a process known as vibro-compaction. This meant that conventional shallow foundations could be adopted.
The facility was opened in 2009 by HRH The Duke of York.
