To limit the height of the building, the plant room and storage areas are in a basement. The basement was formed in a high water table using interlocking (secant) piles and has a post-tensioned concrete slab over. The superstructure is a steel frame.\u00a0 Sustainable timber was used extensively for the wall panels and the roof structure.<\/p>\n<p>This helped the building achieve a BREEAM rating of \u2018Excellent\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Structural Design by Philip Goodliffe whilst working for Young and Webb Limited<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"posttitle\">Architect: Ridge<\/h6>\n<h6>Contractor: Stepnell Limited<\/h6>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This project involved the construction of a new lecture theatre in a site constrained on three sides by existing buildings.
